According to our research and development, we have found two films from the history books that has crossed the 100 crores mark worldwide and domestically –

Disco Dancer

The first film is Disco Dancer, which is directed by Babbar Subhash, scripted by Rahi Masoom Raza, and starring Mithun Chakraborty, was the first Indian film to make over $100 million globally, grossing over $90 million in the Soviet Union.

Mithun Chakraborty and Kim lead in the film, which also has Om Puri and Rajesh Khanna in supporting parts. The film chronicles the rags-to-riches journey of a teenage street singer from Bombay’s slums. Bappi Lahiri composed the film’s filmi disco Bollywood songs, which were penned by Faruk Kaiser.

“Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja,” performed by Parvati Khan, “I am a Disco Dancer,” sung by Vijay Benedict, “Yaad Aa Raha Hai,” sung by Lahiri, and “Goro Ki Na Kaalo Ki,” sung by Suresh Wadkar with Usha Mangeshkar are among the most popular songs.

The film went on to become India’s highest-grossing film. It influenced a shift in the Indian cinema business, with new distribution methods and a shift away from violent tales. It was the first Indian film to gross over $1 billion, and it remains the highest-grossing Indian film of the 1990s and one of the highest-earning Bollywood films of all time when adjusted for inflation. It was dubbed “the biggest blockbuster of the contemporary age” by Box Office India.

The film was also dubbed into Telugu and released under the title Premalayam, where it was a huge hit, lasting over 200 days in theatres. ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ translates to ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ in Hindi The film was nominated for five Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress, as well as the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. It left an indelible mark on Indian weddings, with music and activities from the film being featured.
