Chandra is indeed a 2013 Bollywood fantasy movie that was shot in both Kannada and Tamil. It features Shriya Saran and Prem Kumar and therefore is helmed by Roopa Iyer. The movie follows the lives and love storey of a last-generation princess. India Classic Arts and Narasimha Arts collaborated on Chandra. The movie was released on June 27, 2013, to positive reviews and became a box office triumph in Kannada. On February 14, 2014, the Tamil version of the movie was released.
Rajkumari Ammani Chandravathi (Shriya Saran), a princess, and Chandrahasa (Prem Kumar), a music teacher, are the central characters in the plot. Both of them fall in love. But, despite her wishes, the princess is betrothed to Arya (Ganesh Venkatraman), a US resident. She is unimpressed with American society and attempts to communicate her dissatisfaction with Chandrahasa. Chandrahasa promises his father that he would forget Chandravathi and allow her to marry Arya. The narrative takes a dramatic turn on the wedding day, but it concludes happily.
To come up with a theme for her movie, Roopa Iyer researched the lives of several Indian royal dynasties. The Royal Families’ remaining branches are unable to adapt to modern society.
They don’t really find the proper mate to lead the regal life that their forefathers have bestowed upon them. Roopa Iyer has incorporated the everlasting ‘Love’ to this foundation and created a significant and lovely love tale theme. This film depicts the royal families who have been taken over by the government and are in a difficult condition.
The filming took place in the United States for 20% of the time and then in India for the remainder. Roopa Iyer had set a 50-day timeline for her second directorial film. Roopa Iyer had planned filming periods in Mysore, Bangalore, Rajasthan, and Kodagu with Mumbai-based Media Networks G.
Roopa Iyer had originally considered Ramya for the lead part and had even cast her in it. However, the actress was eventually dismissed from the project due to a strained relationship with the director and the fact that she failed to attend the Kalaripayattu lesson necessary for her role, which required her to execute stunts. Following that, other actresses were considered for the part, including Dia Mirza, Amala Paul, Amrita Rao, and Aindrita Ray. Shriya Saran was then chosen as the main woman. Saran, who made her Kannada film debut in Arasu in a cameo role alongside Puneeth Rajkumar, quickly accepted the opportunity after reading the script.
