Dilwale is indeed a 2015 Bollywood Hindi-language action comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty as well as produced by Gauri Khan. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon feature in the film, which is distributed by Red Chillies Entertainment. Upon his death in April 2017, actor Vinod Khanna, who played Khan and Dhawan’s father, made his final cinematic performance in this movie.

The movie was released in theatres internationally on December 18, 2015, as during the pre-Christmas season, and then became the sixth highest-grossing Movie overseas, while being a flop in India.

It grossed over 145 crores net in India and over 376.85 crores worldwide. At the 61st Filmfare Awards, the film received six nominations, notably Best Actor for Khan and Best Actress for Kajol.

Rohit Shetty said in January 2015 that he was working on a project alongside Shah Rukh Khan, which would have been their second collaboration that after 2013 film Chennai Express. Shetty claimed that production would begin in March 2015. The actress Kajol was cast opposite Khan for the sixth time by Shetty. He also signed actor Varun Dhawan, who was rumoured to be playing Khan’s younger brother, and actress Kriti Sanon to play Khan’s sister.

On March 20, 2015, Dhawan commenced shooting the movie in Goa. Khan and Kajol first joined the crew in Bulgaria for shooting in June 2015. Following month, Dhawan and Kriti Sanon were photographed in Bulgaria for the movie’s first song. By late July, the timetable had been completed. A love song involving the protagonist couple was shot in Iceland in August 2015. In early September, the entire crew flew to Hyderabad to capture what was supposed to be the final schedule of shooting. Nevertheless, by late October, the production in Hyderabad had been finished, as well as production had officially ended with a brief schedule in Goa, the same place where it had begun.

Additional song was recorded in haste in December, just after marketing had begun. It comprised all four main characters which had to be shown at the same time as the end credits.

Critics gave the movie mixed to good reviews. Bollywood Hungama’s Taran Adarsh scored the film four out of five stars, writing, “Dilwale is, on the whole, a delectable dish that satisfies the cravings of masalathon aficionados while also being a must-see for SRK-Kajol devotees. Dilwale is a pure crowd-pleaser that provides exactly what you’d expect from a Rohit Shetty movie: king-sized fun. Take a chance! “..

“Dilwale is a masala entertainer from the start to the conclusion,” wrote Komal Nahta in his assessment of the film. “Dilwale is the ideal popcorn flick,” said Filmfare’s Rachit Gupta, who gave it 4/5 stars. It’s vibrant, vivid, and amusing. It cleverly maintains the focus on the SRK-Kajol romance. It has excellent music. There were some good laughs as well. It’s definitely worth a look.” DNA’s Sarita A Tanwar gave the film three out of five stars, writing, “Dilwale is flawed, but it’s right for those who think that love does, in fact, overcome everything.”

India’s Ananya Bhattacharya “Dilwale is incredibly pleasant despite an oh-my-god-this-is-so-predictable narrative,” wrote Today of the movie.
