Vir Das Defends Air India After Tragedy, But Faces Heat for Emotional Tribute

Comedian Vir Das recently found himself in turbulent air after tweeting praise for Air India, just days after a heartbreaking crash claimed 241 lives in Ahmedabad. Vir, whose grandfather once worked for the airline, called the crew “the kindest in the sky.”

Though his tweet was well-intended, critics slammed it as tone-deaf PR. Vir responded with a now-deleted post, explaining his deep-rooted emotional connection to the airline, acknowledging its flaws while defending its people

“I’ve flown every circuit… and no one welcomes you like they do,” he shared, adding that the loss affected the crew deeply too — a reality often forgotten.

While the tragedy of flight AI171 remains under investigation, Vir’s words serve as a reminder that behind every uniform is a human heart — grieving, working, and deserving of compassion.
