Sophie Choudry Voices Concern Over Pollution and Noise During Diwali

Actor and performer Sophie Choudry, known for her responsible social media presence and strong opinions on civic issues, has expressed her concern over the rising levels of pollution and noise during this year’s Diwali celebrations in Mumbai.

Taking to social media, Sophie called out the excessive bursting of firecrackers that went on till the early hours of the morning, pointing to the worsening air quality and the distress caused to animals. “For the past few years, we’ve all seen the level of pollution, the AQI, the fact that we are collectively destroying the planet and instilling fear in innocent animals. Yet we burst crackers until 5 a.m. every night!” she wrote.

She also questioned the lack of enforcement by authorities and the absence of a timely response to public complaints. Tagging the Mumbai Police and the Chief Minister’s Office in her post, Sophie remarked, “There were no cops to stop anyone, no one to answer the 100 number. I’ve heard the same story from everyone I know.”

Clarifying that her criticism was not against celebration itself, Sophie emphasized that her appeal was for more mindful and responsible festivities. “We all want to celebrate Diwali and have a good time, but why aren’t rules being enforced?” she asked, urging people to consider the broader environmental and social impact of their actions.

Sophie’s remarks serve as a timely reminder that true celebration should not come at the cost of public health, environmental safety, and compassion toward all living beings.
