Indiana Jones is an American media brand that debuted in 1981 with the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark and is centred on the exploits of Dr Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones, Jr., a fictitious professor of archaeology. A prequel, The Temple of Doom, was released in 1984, and a sequel, The Last Crusade, was released in 1989. In 2008, a fourth movie, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released. A fifth film is now under production, with a tentative release date of 2023. George Lucas devised the series, which stars Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.
With The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, a television series based on the character’s upbringing and boyhood that included adventures with his father, the brand expanded to something like a television series in 1992. The Further Adventures of was first published by Marvel Comics in 1983, as well as Dark Horse Comics acquired the character’s comic book rights in 1991.
A series of German books by Wolfgang Hohlbein, twelve novels set well before movies published by Bantam Books, as well as a series set during in the character’s boyhood inspired by that of the television programme have all been released, as have other novels featuring fresh adventures. Since 1982, a slew of video games has been developed.
The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992–1996) featured three versions of the character: Sean Patrick Flanery played Indiana when he was 16–21 years old, Corey Carrier started playing Indiana when he was 8–10 years old in several episodes, and George Hall narrated the show as the 93-year-old Jones who bookended each episode. In 1990, Lucas began working on the series as “edutainment” that would be more intellectual than the flicks. He authored the narrative for each episode, which was his first cooperation with producer Rick McCallum.
