Is Bollywood famous in Pakistan?

Bollywood

There is a little relief and rejoicing following news that Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan has left our Pakistani brethren teary-eyed as they depart Karachi film venues. While Pakistan outlawed the exhibition of Bollywood films as early as 1965, the regulation was recently loosened, as well as the films are only permitted to be aired following rigorous censor filtering. While many Bollywood films are all still prohibited in Pakistan, as well as the nation is well-known for its anti-Bollywood stance, there is also another side towards the tale. Given Bollywood’s love of Pakistani performers, it’s really only fair to highlight the Bollywood films that enchanted Pakistani fans and made cinema theatres inside the neighbouring nation ring.

Dabangg

Bhai’s adoration knows no bounds. While Ek Tha Tiger was banned in Pakistan, Dabangg was a hit with the crowd and received a lot of positive feedback.

3 Idiots

Even just the staid Pakistani censor board members could have cracked a smile during the watching of this Rajkumar Hirani film.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge

Noone ever, absolutely no one, is immune to Simran’s pleadings and Babuji’s “Ja, jee le apni zindagi.”

Sholay

It had been a lengthy wait, one that concluded only in 2015. But the adoration and crowded theatres made the wait worthwhile!

Devdas

Once again, it was a late release, but one that was well received by the Pakistani public. Oh, and for the way, Madhuri Dixit is still one of Pakistan’s favourite Bollywood stars!

Kismat Konnection

The movie may have bombed in India, but it was a surprise hit in Pakistan, where it became one of the most loved Bollywood movies. Songs by Atif Aslam may have had a hand in it, however hey, a hit is still a hit!

My Name is Khan

The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer wasn’t just well-received in Pakistan, but it also set a number of milestones for Bollywood films.

Water

Water was only shown for a short time and in a few theatres, but for the time it was shown, the theatres were crowded and the audience flocked to watch Deepa Mehta’s heartbreaking narrative.

Dhan Dhana Dhana Goal

It’s hardly unexpected to see a sports film succeed in a country that values cricket as much as India does, if not more so.
