A Mumbai court has cleared Shilpa Shetty of an obscenity charge in which Richard Gere kissed her at a public occasion over 15 years ago.
Richard and Shilpa had met in Rajasthan for a promotional event in 2007. Richard pulled Shilpa in his arms and kissed her on stage, generating a commotion across the country. Three charges have been filed against the couple in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh as a result of the infamous public kiss. ‘Obscenity and indecency’ were charged against Shilpa and Richard.
According to a Live Law article, Metropolitan Magistrate Ketaki Chavan awarded Shilpa Shetty relief inside the case, stating, “It appears that perhaps the accused Shilpa Shetty is indeed the victim of the claimed crime of accused no. 1.” (Richard Gere.) Inside the lawsuit, not a single aspect of some of the claimed offences is met.” Following the submission of a report and papers inside the case, the Magistrate last Thursday ruled that the allegations against Shilpa were “groundless” and released her as from charges.
Shilpa was arrested under Indian Penal Code sections 292 (selling of obscene literature), 293 (sale of obscene things), and 294 (obscene actions and songs), according to an Indian Express storey.
She had also been charged under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act as well as the Information Technology Act.
However, Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty’s husband, was designated the principal culprit in a porn-related case in 2021, putting him in legal difficulties. On July 19, the businessman was arrested as well as spent two months in prison before even being released on bond in September. Shilpa has yet to respond to the legal matter. She had, nevertheless, urged the media should spare her as from media trial in a solitary statement about the matter.
