Drake has withdrawn his two Grammy nominations for 2022

Drake, a rapper and musician, has withdrawn his two Grammy nominations for 2022. Drake was just one among five rappers nominated for Best Rap Album, Certified Lover Boy, as well as Best Rap Performance, ‘Way 2 Sexy,’ for his single (featuring Future and Young Thug).

The decision has been made by Drake as well as his management, as per Variety, as well as the Grammys, honoured the request, albeit the reason for the decision is still unknown. The voting for those two rap categories will go forward with just four candidates, probably since the voting period has indeed begun; Grammy ballots were uploaded for elected members on Monday morning.

Drake’s nominations, on the other hand, were uncommon. Although it is unclear if he opted to just not submit the hit Certified Lover Boy or any of its tracks for the major categories of Album, Song, or Record of the Year, his omission from any of those categories suggests that he did. He definitely chose to enter and was nominated for the two rap categories from which he has now withdrawn. Some thought that his choice was influenced by the fact that he was mentioned in lawsuits stemming from last month’s tragedy at the Astroworld event in Houston, where ten people were killed after a crowd erupted during headliner Travis Scott’s set, which included a surprise appearance by Drake.

After it failed to acknowledge his colleague and fellow Canadian musician The Weeknd in any of its 2021 categories, although he got one of the highest albums as well as songs of 2020, he urged for them to be replaced with “something fresh which we can build up through time as well as pass on to future generations.”

He refused to submit his album More Life for any of the 2018 Grammy awards, despite the fact that this really qualified; the controversy surrounding that year’s ceremony grew when Jay-Z went home empty-handed despite being nominated for eight.

Drake also made fun of the Grammys throughout his victory speech for ‘God’s Plan,’ which won Best Rap Song in 2019. After claiming that prizes had no meaning, the producers of the awards presentation shut off his microphone.

On January 31, 2022, the 64th Annual Grammy Awards will indeed be presented in the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
