Ramesh Thete’s Ramesh Thete Films is producing and directing The Battle of Bhima Koregaon, an upcoming Indian Bollywood period warfare drama movie. The circumstances of the Battle of Koregaon are shown in this film. Arjun Rampal and Digangana Suryavanshi appear in the movie as Mahar warrior Sidhnak Inamdar.

The 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence occurred on January 1, 2018, at an annual commemorative gathering in Bhima Koregaon to commemorate the Battle of Bhima Koregaon’s 200th anniversary. A 28-year-old boy was killed, and five others were injured, as a result of the crowd’s violence and stone-pelting.

B. G. Kolse Patil and P. B. Sawant retired justices, organised the yearly event, also known as the Elgar Parishad conference. According to Justice P. B. Sawant, the name “Elgar” means “loud invitation” or “loud proclamation.”

Prior to the anniversary, around 250 Bahujan organisations banded together under the name of “Elgar Parishad” to hold a meeting at Shaniwar Wada in Pune, the Peshwas’ former seat. B.G. Kolte-Patil and P. B. Sawant, two retired judges, and Jignesh Mevani, a freshly elected member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, were among the speakers.

Hindu organisations are believed to be irritated by the comparison of Hindutva to the Peshwas. Thousands of Dalits descended on Bhima Koregaon on January 1st, as they do every year. The commemoration has a history of being peaceful, as well as the inhabitants of the hamlet, have a tradition of social harmony. This year, though, tensions in a neighbouring town had begun to rise over the subject of who performed the funeral rites of Maratha king Sambhaji – the Mahar or the Maratha. The Bhima Koregaon panchayat issued a notification urging people to boycott the event by closing all shops that same day.

Dalit rights organisations organised roadblocks and demonstrations across Maharashtra to condemn the violence.

Pune has seen a lot of violence. During the demonstration, a 16-year-old kid was murdered, and his family claims he was injured by police caning. Prakash Ambedkar announced a Maharashtra bandh on January 3, 2018. Various protests erupted across Maharashtra, resulting in the injuries of 30 police officers and the detention of over 300 individuals. Protests were placed across Maharashtra. Suburban trains in Mumbai were disrupted, forcing Dabbawalas to halt their services.

The Maharashtra Home Department established a fact-finding commission in February 2018.

Former Calcutta High Court Chief Justice JN Patel, as well as state Chief Information Commissioner Sumit Mullick, comprised this Commission, which began operations in September 2018. The Commission’s term was set to expire on April 8, 2020, and that they had demanded an extension of six months.
