Rang Rasiya: All you should know about this Bollywood’s erotic movie

Rang Rasiya

Rang Rasiya is indeed an Indian erotic movie directed based on the true story of Raja Ravi Varma, a 19th-century Indian painter. The Hindi version of the movie is entitled Rang Rasiya, whereas the English version is entitled Colours of Passion. The movie is produced by Ketan Mehta’s wife Deepa Sahi as well as Aanand Mahendroo, as well as helmed by Ketan Mehta. Randeep Hooda plays the title role, while Nandana Sen plays his romantic lead.

Varma’s demeanour, persona, and paintings, according to Mehta, were the most intriguing artists of that age. From his days at the Film and Television Institute of India, he was enthralled with Ravi Varma.

After reading Desai’s novel, Mehta was inspired to produce a movie on Ravi Varma’s life and times, as well as he began working on the plot of his upcoming movie. He rewrote the narrative to portray Ravi Varma as a rebel painter, a staunch supporter of creative freedom in depicting nudity, and a victim of conventional society. He believed that presenting the picture in this way, it would get greater momentum with the intelligentsia and make the road to awards and honours easier.

Given that many of Ravi Varma’s paintings are utilised as religious symbols in Hindu homes, this placement is a significant stretch of the imagination, a major attempt at fictionalisation.

Ravi Varma was a conservative man with a strong predilection for modestly dressed, soft-featured, ladylike gentlewomen and a dislike for brash hussies, as seen by his works. Only a handful of his paintings dabble with semi-nudity, and these ventures appear to be have been planned, hesitant attempts on his side to appeal to a western audience. Even at the time, art reception inside the West was dominated by a progressive mafia that favoured radicalism and scorned conventional values. Ketan Mehta experienced a comparable situation in India in the modern age, and that this influenced the decisions he made when writing the narrative for this movie.

A straightforward, linear presentation of Ravi Varma’s life and work would have also given the picture the impression of a documentary, as it did with his previous film, Sardar. The script was written to satisfy these requirements, which included a storyline as well as a specific level of drama and sensuality. Mehta discovered a small (and frivolous) court case filed against Ravi Varma for supposedly portraying a Hindu god irreverent in one of his paintings and utilised it to create an appropriate script.

Sandesh Shandilya created the soundtrack for Rang Rasiya, while Manoj Muntashir wrote the lyrics.
