The Predator is indeed a science fiction action horror anthology media property focused on a movie franchise about humankind’s interactions with such an alien race of trophy-seeking military troops known as that of the “Predator.” directed by John McTiernan, kicked off the series, which has been accompanied by three sequels, Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010), and Also the Predator (2018), directed by Stephen Hopkins, Nimród Antal, and Shane Black, respectively, as well as an upcoming prequel Prey (2022), directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Predator: Concrete Jungle (2005) and Predator: Hunting Grounds (2020), which together got mixed reviews, are two of the many books, comics, and video game spin-offs based upon that franchise. The Alien vs. Predator franchise mixes the Alien and Predator franchises and includes two movies, as well as a variety of comic books, novels, and video games.
The Predator franchise depicts a series of violent confrontations between humans and the Predators, a hostile, trophy-hunting alien species. The series, which primarily takes place in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, consists of films that, while entirely independent, depict human encounters with Predators in various locales and time zones. Mercenaries and businesses, like the OWLF (The Other-Worldly Life Forms Program) led by CIA agent Peter Keyes and its successor Project Stargazer led by his son Sean Keyes, hunt the Predators whenever they emerge in the franchise’s lone recurrent storyline point. Both parties are after them for opposite reasons: the former wants to exterminate them because they are considered dangerous, while the latter wants to capture them for scientific and military interests.
Predators were released on home video on October 19, 2010, and contained the two prequel short films Moments of Extraction and Crucified. On February 25, 2016, Loot Crate published Predator vs. Colonial Marines, a VR 360° short film directed by Julian Higgins and written by Peter Weidman in which a squad of Colonial Marines raid a Weyland-Yutani warehouse and come face to face with the deadly alien hunter. On December 18, 2018, The Predator was released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD in the United States, along with the short film Holiday Special, in which Santa Claus, his elves, and reindeer face off against the Predators at the North Pole.
