Intermission

Intermission is indeed a black comedy crime movie directed by John Crowley and written by Mark O’Rowe that was released in Ireland in 2003. The movie, which is set in Dublin, Ireland, has a number of intertwined tales. It was recorded in a documentary style, with some of these portions featuring clips of other television shows that are part of a show (one of the storylines is about a television documentary director). It stars Cillian Murphy, Colm Meaney, and Colin Farrell, all of which have starred in globally successful movies like 28 Days Later (Murphy), The Commitments (Meaney), and Also in Bruges (Colin Farrell) (Farrell).

Lehiff (Colin Farrell) begins the picture by seducing a cashier. He strikes the girl in the face and takes her to the till following flirting over her. It immediately shifts to John (Cillian Murphy) as well as Deirdre (Kelly Macdonald), a young couple who had recently split. Their extended friends will be the focus of the movie.

Lehiff is immediately revealed to be a minor criminal who is often in trouble. Garda Detective Jerry Lynch (Colm Meaney), Lehiff’s antagonist, positions himself as a saviour whose primary duty is to combat “scumbags” on Dublin’s streets.

He engages the aid of Ben Campion (Tomás Silleabháin), an aspiring filmmaker who really is the torment of his “go-softer” employer, who thinks Lynch is just too nefarious a topic to also be featured on such an Irish “docusoap” series.

Mick (Bran F. O’Byrne), a Dublin bus driver, is the next. Sally (Shirley Henderson) joins him on his journey. She approaches Mick about certain hair around her lip since she is self-conscious about her appearance, as well as he ridicules her. As the bus ride proceeds, Philip, a little child, takes a swing at his bus, causing a serious collision that Ben decides to film.

Ben is instructed to concentrate his efforts on Sally, Deirdre’s sister, who assisted the victims following the tragedy. When Deirdre flaunts her new lover, Sam (Michael McElhatton), a middle-aged finance manager who now has left his fourteen-year-old wife, Noeleen, she becomes enraged, questioning her own self-worth as just a woman as well as a wife.

Without Deirdre, John is completely adrift, and that he is desperate to reclaim her. Mick devises a plot using Lehiff and John after being fired from his job and running out of money. They kidnap Sam and kidnap Deirdre. They compel Sam to visit his bank in order to obtain money for just a ransom.

Just when the strategy appears to work, something goes awry when Sam is beaten on the streets by their angry wife Noeleen, forcing the Garda to intervene. Even without money, Mick and John escape.

After already being wrongly accused of the collision, Mick loses his job, then he becomes obsessed with exacting revenge on the youngster who did it. He loses control of his automobile while following Philip and also is left balancing so over the canal. Philip climbs onto the bonnet and leaps from the car, allowing it to crash through into the canal. Inside an open field, Detective Lynch pursues and corners Lehiff. While Ben films everything, he chooses to take him up.

Lynch, though, makes a mistake, and Lehiff gains the upper hand, threatening to murder him. Ben grabs the gun and fires at Lehiff. Lynch manages to hide everything.

As the titles roll, Noeleen and Sam, finally reconciled, are watching television inside their apartment. She’s sat on the remote control for the express aim of forcing them to change the channels by hand.
