In his directorial debut, Rommel Rodrigues wrote and directed Gurukul, a 2015 Indian Marathi-language movie. Asit Redij, Swapnil Joshi, Pradeep Kuwar, Prashant Mohite, Neha Khan, Reenna Liman, Sonali Shewale, and many others feature with Nagesh Bhosle and Vidyadhar Joshi as the two major characters. The plot follows a group of former students on a journey to restore the grandeur of Gurukul, the institute where they received their higher education, and to free it from the clutches of a greedy politician who had taken it via deception.
Gurukul tells the narrative of Nansaheb Vishwanath Gokhale, often known as Guruji (played by Nagesh Bhosle), the founder and president of Gurukul University. Guruji stands out as a teacher because he treats his students with kindness and tolerance. Along with professional education, he believes students should emphasise moral and social values in their lives. Gurukul is illegally acquired by a local politician Girish Bhao Velangekar (played by Vidyadhar Joshi), devastated by which Guruji leaves for an unknown place, reflecting the politicisation of education institutes in India.
The narrative depicts the mission of six former pupils who are now married couples to find, battle, and restore Gurukul’s previous leader Guruji’s fame, culminating in a finale that reflects his moral excellence.
Sanjay Raj Gaurinandan composed four pieces of music for the movie, with lyrics written by Prashant Ingole, Rajesh Bamugade, and Madhukar Arkade.
Famous singer Asha Bhosle has performed an intense Lavani (Marathi Folksong) with lyrics written by writer Prashant Ingole, who has written the lyrics for blockbuster films such as Race 2, Bajirao Mastani, Mary Kom, Daddy, and others.
