BTS often referred to as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band founded in 2010 and launched in 2013 underneath the Big Hit Entertainment label. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are part of a septet that co-writes and co-produces a lot of their material.

Their musical approach has expanded to incorporate a wide spectrum of genres after beginning as a hip-hop ensemble. Their songs, which are frequently centered on personal and social commentary, address issues such as mental health, adolescent problems and coming of age, loss, the struggle to accepting oneself, and individualism. Their work frequently incorporates connections to literary and psychological issues, as well as an alternate universe plot.

BTS debuted in 2013 with their single release 2 Cool 4 Skool, and then in 2014, they launched Dark & Wild, its first Korean-language debut album, as well as Wake Up, their debut Japanese-language solo album. Wings (2016), the team’s second Korean studio album, was also their first to acquire one million copies in the country. BTS had entered the worldwide music market by 2017, driving the Korean Wave through into the United States as breaking multiple sales records. They have become the first Korean band to peak the US Billboard 200 list with their compilation album Love Yourself: Tears (2018), and also the first Korean act to get an accreditation from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on the single “Mic Drop”.

BTS became the first Korean band to be incredibly successful by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and has become the fastest band since the Beatles to achieve four US number-one albums in less than two years. Following their Grammy-nominated single “Dynamite,” BTS has become the first all-South Korean act to top the Billboard Global 200 and US Billboard Hot 100 in 2020. BTS became the first act since Michael Jackson to have five US number-one singles with “Savage Love,” “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance.”

BTS officially entered the U.s. market in 2017, earning Top Digital Artist just at Billboard Music Awards in the year and appearing now at American Music Awards later that same year. They killed it all on Saturday Night Live in April 2019 in front of a boisterous throng of their supporters. Yet in 2020, they’ve performed in Times Square on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, as well as they ultimately had their Grammys moments when they performed “Old Town Road” with Lil Nas X.
