Hollywood High School is indeed a four-year public secondary school inside the Los Angeles Unified School Area, situated with in Hollywood district of Los Angeles, California, near the junction of North Highland Avenue as well as West Sunset Boulevard.

In September 1903, the Masonic Temple on Highland Avenue, north of Hollywood Boulevard, established a two-room school upon that second storey of an empty warehouse. In November 1903, Hollywood was constituted as just a municipality. The class of 1924 gave the Hollywood High Organ Opus 481 as just a gift. This was repaired in 2002 following sustaining extensive water damage just after Northridge earthquake in 1994.

On January 4, 2012, the campus got added towards the National Register of Historic Places. The Sheik, a Rudolph Valentino movie released in 1921, inspired the school’s mascot.

This was part of the Los Angeles City High School District through 1961, whenever it amalgamated with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The boys’ varsity football team, coached by head coach Frank Galvan, competed inside the school’s third championship game with in 2015–16 football season. They had a 12–2 record at the end of the season. Coach Galvan finished his six-year Hollywood coaching tenure including four league titles, six play-off appearances, one city championship participation, city semi-finals, defeating opponents for five years in a row (owned SUNSET), 25+ all-city players, as well as the title as winningest coach in Hollywood history. The boys’ varsity volleyball team, coached by Beverley Kilpatrick, won the school’s first-ever championship game with in 2016–17 season. Their remarkable season came to a close with a 17–5 overall record.

The school colours are Crimson as well as White, although the majority of students wear Red and White to demonstrate their Sheik Pride. At athletic events, the school’s spirit team performs the popular yell “Red and White, come on (Sheiks), let’s fight!” This transition from crimson to white is said to have begun in the 1980s, whenever the school got repainted in Red to save money. The pupils picked up on it, and red has already been celebrated ever since.
