After the success of the first film, Elsa (played by Idina Menzel) became an LGBTQ+ symbol, Frozen 2 was widely expected to focus on her love life. The original included the immediate anthem Let It Go, which was quickly accepted by the LGBTQ+ community because of its theme of empowerment, conquering identity problems, and breaking free from oppression. 3 years just after debuting of Frozen, a test campaign called #GiveElsaAGirlfriend encouraged producers to do exactly that one in the sequel, allowing the heroine to find a same-sex partner.
But it wasn’t meant to be, and filmmakers Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck instead opted to focus on Elsa’s path of self-discovery in terms of magical abilities rather than romance.
Although Elsa’s love life was once again kept out from the picture in Frozen, some fans believed they spotted a link between both the snow queen as well as her new buddy Honeymaren.
Elsa travelled to Northuldra in search of the source of a call she had heard and answers concerning her abilities.
She encountered the Northuldran woodland tribe inside the woods, comprising Honeymaren (Rachel Matthews) and Ryder (Rachel Matthews) (Jason Ritter).
Elsa and Honeymaren became close, although there were no overtly amorous encounters between them.
Honeymaren actress Matthews as well as Ryder actor Ritter explained what they believed their characters were just doing now that the spell here on forest had been removed and that they were now free to wander around with a recent interview.
Matthews hinted at the future of Elsa’s friendship with Honeymaren, implying that the two will get more closely following the conclusion of Frozen 2.
“Honeymoon is definitely picking up a lot watching Elsa and is fascinated by her abilities,” she speculated.
“I’m sure Elsa is learning much in herself and this fresh start she’s created with our people.” “I believe they’re all teaching each other something.”
“And in my head, I want to picture additional scenarios between Honeymaren and Elsa,” the interviewer added.
“It’s the same for me,” the actress stated passionately.
“I think there was a tremendous relationship there,” the reporter said, and Matthews concurred, saying, “Yes.”
