Avalon Hollywood

Avalon Hollywood is indeed a historical nightclub in Hollywood, California, situated at 1735 N. Vine Street near the corner of Hollywood and Vine. The Hollywood Playhouse, The WPA Federal Theatre, El Capitan Theatre, The Jerry Lewis Theatre, The Hollywood Palace, and Also the Palace were all prior names for the venue. It seats 1,500 people and therefore is located directly across the street as from Capitol Records Building.

The theatre at 1735 N. Vine, formerly known as The Hollywood Playhouse, initially opened for business on January 24, 1927. In 1926–1927, building architectural partnership of Henry L. Gogerty (1894–1990) as well as Carl Jules Weyl designed it in the Spanish Baroque style.

The Hollywood Theatre was indeed a location for government-sponsored theatre events as during Great Depression, and it has been run by the Federal Theatre Project of something like the Works Progress Administration.

The El Capitan Theatre is a theatre in El Capitan, California.

The playhouse later featured a number of CBS Radio Network shows, such Fanny Brice’s Baby Snooks as well as Lucille Ball’s My Favorite Husband.

The El Capitan Theatre was renamed inside the 1940s and had been home to Ken Murray’s Blackouts, a long-running live burlesque variety performance.

The theatre was turned into a television studio by NBC inside the 1950s, while it was still known as El Capitan. On September 23, 1952, Richard Nixon gave his famous “Checkers speech” from a setup on it’s own stage. This incident is sometimes falsely attributed towards the El Capitan Theatre on adjacent Hollywood Boulevard, despite the fact that the El Capitan Theatre just wasn’t a television studio and also was, in 1952, a movie theatre known also as Paramount Theatre.

The Colgate Comedy Hour, The Lawrence Welk Show, Truth or Consequences, and This Is Your Life all aired at the same time.

The building was refurbished in 1963 by American Broadcasting Company (ABC) television for a cost of $400,000.
