Hollywood Records

The Disney Music Group’s Hollywood Records is an American record label. The label specialises on adult records that aren’t appropriate for Walt Disney Records’ main label, as well as pop, rock, alternative, hip hop, and country music.

Queen, Dreamers, Bea Miller, Martina Stoessel, Breaking Benjamin, Jorge Blanco, Olivia Holt, Sofia Carson, New Hope Club, Joywave, ScaryPoolParty, Area21, CB30, Laine Hardy, and Temecula Road are among the musicians on the label’s current roster, which was founded in 1989.

Since being acquired by The Walt Disney Company, the label has released soundtrack CDs and digital downloads from Marvel Studios, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, ABC, National Geographic, Hulu, FX, and ESPN.

Michael Eisner, then-CEO of The Walt Disney Company, launched Hollywood Records in 1989 as a method to extend the company’s music operations by focusing on developing and promoting the careers of a wide range of musicians in numerous genres. The firm was confined to releasing soundtracks from Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures films at the time.

The label’s original president, lawyer Peter Paterno, served until 1993, when he resigned due to the division’s poor sales. After failing to sign fresh acts like Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Naughty by Nature, Cypress Hill, and Dr. Dre, the label’s first significant triumph came in February 1990, when it paid $10 million for the North American distribution rights to Queen’s complete catalogue. Innuendo, Queen’s debut album underneath the Hollywood label, was released the next year.
