What is Universal CityWalk?

Universal CityWalk

Universal CityWalk is indeed the moniker given to the entertainment and shopping zones that surround Universal Parks & Resorts’ amusement parks. CityWalk originated as an extension of Universal Studios Hollywood’s original park and now serves as that of an entry plaza towards the theme parks as from parking lots. Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, Japan, and Universal Beijing Resort in Beijing, China all include CityWalk.

Although there are some shared tenants between CityWalk Hollywood and CityWalk Orlando, their architectural designs are significantly distinct.

CityWalk Orlando is nearly wholly modern in look, unlike CityWalk Hollywood, which contains a classic modern blend of Hollywood.

Although it serves as that of an entry as from parking lot of Universal Studios Hollywood, CityWalk is a different entity. According to Jon Jerde, inspiration comes from the Horton Plaza, and the architecture of City Walk Hollywood attempts to represent the architecture seen across Los Angeles.

The three-block entertainment, eating, and retail promenade known as Universal CityWalk Hollywood. It contains over 30 restaurants, a 19-screen movie theatre with IMAX, seven nightclubs, indoor skydiving, and over 30 shops.

CityWalk, designed by Jon Jerde and located next to the Cineplex Odeon theatre, first inaugurated in May 1993. In 2000, a $1 billion, 93,000-square-foot extension was completed. Jerde Associates was in charge of the planning.

Pearce Structures designed and built a 170-foot radial trellis for CityWalk’s centre plaza. WET designed a jumping fountain for the courtyard. Beside the big guitar towering out over Hard Rock Cafe, a huge television monitor brought into it by Panasonic is situated well above multiplex, showcasing forthcoming Universal movie releases, music videos, as well as NBCUniversal advertising.

The sight of street entertainers (magicians and musicians) is widespread. On Universal CityWalk, “5 Towers” is indeed an integrated outdoor music arena with a technologically sophisticated stage system. Thousands of LED bulbs, motion control sensors, five towering 42-foot light tower sculptures, a giant video monitor, as well as a state-of-the-art audio system are all included upon that stage.

The new stage system is indeed the artistic and structural highlight of CityWalk. There will be live music.

In 1999, the Universal CityWalk in Orlando debuted as part of the development that converted Universal Studios Florida through into Universal Orlando Resort that exists today. This was constructed on top of the previous parking lot and entrance of Universal Studios.
