Split

M. Night Shyamalan’s 2016 psychological horror movie Split stars James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as Betty Buckley and was written, directed, and produced by him. The storey revolves on a guy having 24 personalities that kidnap as well as imprisons three adolescent girls inside a remote subterranean facility.

On November 11, 2015, principal photography commenced in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On September 26, 2016, the movie opened at Fantastic Fest, as well as Universal Pictures distributed this in the United States on January 20, 2017. The film garnered mostly good reviews, with critics praising McAvoy’s acting and applauding Shyamalan’s directing.

Some mental health experts blasted the movie for allegedly stigmatising mental illness. The split was a box office hit, collecting $278 million worldwide on such a $9 million budget.

Split is indeed a standalone sequel to M. Night Shyamalan’s 2000 movie Unbreakable, however, it is not advertised as such. However, the reveal is saved for a sequence in which Bruce Willis reprises his performance from Unbreakable in such an uncredited appearance. Split has been labelled the very first “stealth sequel” and the very first solo supervillain origin movie by critics. Shyamalan’s Unbreakable trilogy came to a close with the 2019 picture Glass, which reunited the actors as well as characters from both prior movies.

With the support of his therapist, Dr Karen Fletcher, Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man battling dissociative identity disorder (DID) rooted inside history of childhood trauma and abandonment, has already been able to live with his 23 unique identities for several years.

On September 26, 2016, Split already has its international debut at Fantastic Fest. On November 15, 2016, it was also screened at the AFI Fest. The film was released in theatres inside the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada on January 20, 2017.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment released Split on Digital HD on April 4, 2017, and on Blu-Ray, DVD, and On-Demand on April 18, 2017.
