PM Narendra Modi and Others Mourn Lata Mangeshkar’s Death

PM Narendra Modi as well as other prominent figures have expressed their sorrow over Lata Mangeshkar’s death.

Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary vocalist and Bharat Ratna awardee, passed away on Sunday morning. She died inside the Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai there at age of 92. On January 8, Mangeshkar, also known as that of the ‘Queen of Melody’ as well as the ‘Nightingale of India,’ came back positive for COVID-19 with moderate symptoms and also was admitted to the hospital for treatment. The news of her untimely death sent shockwaves throughout the country. Lata Mangeshkar has received heartfelt tributes from across all parts of the globe.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tributes to the great musician on his Twitter account. He posted images of Mangeshkar on social media, saying the veteran singer left a great vacuum in our country that will never be replaced.

PM Modi tweeted, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”In another follow-up tweet, Modi said, “Lata Didi’s songs brought out a variety of emotions. She closely witnessed the transitions of the Indian film world for decades. Beyond films, she was always passionate about India’s growth. She always wanted to see a strong and developed India.”

Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, wrote, “Lata ji’s death breaks my heart, as it does for millions throughout the world. Generations have found expression for their deepest feelings in her extensive repertoire of songs, which capture the soul and beauty of India. Lata ji’s achievements, as a Bharat Ratna, will be unparalleled.”

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman were among those who grieved Lata Mangeshkar’s death.
