Leander Paes, tennis star was found guilty of domestic assault against the partner

A Mumbai metropolitan magistrate court found former tennis star Leander Paes guilty of domestic assault against actor-model Rhea Pillai. The court ruled that the Tennis great had perpetrated multiple acts of domestic abuse on Rhea, according to sources in the Press Trust of India (PTI). In addition to the Rs 1 lakh monthly maintenance, the court has ordered Leander Paes to pay Rhea Pillai Rs 50,000 in monthly rent if she decides to leave their shared property.

The order was reportedly issued by metropolitan magistrate Komalsing Rajput earlier this month. It was, however, made public on Wednesday. “It is shown that the respondent caused multiple acts of domestic violence,” the magistrate wrote in her order. Rhea Pillai, a model and actress, had filed a domestic assault case against Leander Paes in 2014, seeking relief and safety from domestic violence.

Rhea Pillai further alleged that he “inflicted verbal, emotional, and economic abuse, resulting in severe emotional violence and anguish” as a result of his actions and conduct. She also revealed that they had been in a live-in relationship for the previous eight years.
