Vijayant Kohli Speaks Out on the Neglect of Supporting Actors: “Not Everyone Becomes a Lead”

In an exclusive interview, actor Vijayant Kohli opened up about a long-standing issue in the film industry — the sidelining of supporting characters and lesser-known actors.

Getting visibly emotional during the conversation, Kohli expressed his disappointment with how production houses often overlook the importance of side characters. He echoed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s recent bold statement on the marginalization of supporting actors, stating, “Production houses kyun kar rahe hain yeh sab?”

Kohli criticized the prevailing mindset within the industry, where attention and resources are disproportionately focused on mainstream stars. “Production people think ki wo bade stars hain, unpe dhyaan do — but they forget the side actors,” he remarked.

Highlighting the reality of the profession, Kohli said, “Sab lead nahi ban paate. Kuch bante hain, kuch nahi bante — but that doesn’t mean the others don’t matter.” He emphasized that every actor, regardless of screen time or billing, contributes meaningfully to a story’s impact.

The actor’s candid remarks have struck a chord with many in the industry, reigniting conversations around equitable recognition and fair treatment of all artists on set.
