‘The Devotion of Suspect X’ to feature Kareena Kapoor in its Hindi remake

Sujoy Ghosh, who has worked in the mystery genre before with films like Kahaani (2012) and Badla (2019), stated in 2015 that he will be collaborating with Saif Ali Khan on a screen version of Keigo Higashino’s most celebrated piece, The Devotion of Suspect X with Kareena Kapoor. However, for a variety of reasons, the project did not come to fruition. Sujoy, on the other hand, was not ready to let go of a narrative that has been hailed as one of the finest mysteries in recent memory.

Now, seven years later, the filmmaker is scheduled to direct the adaptation, and in a bizarre twist of destiny, it will be directed by him. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan’s wife and actress will now star in the adaptation.

The movie, which also stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma, is set to begin production in March. Kareena’s first project following the birth of her younger son Jehangir will be this one.

Higashino’s novel tells the storey of a single mother who murders her ex-husband by mistake. Her mathematician neighbour assists her in covering up the death, always keeping one step ahead of such investigating police.

Kareena Kapoor, who plays the character, is said to have started filming the untitled project. According to a tabloid article, Kareena met Sujoy multiple times to discuss the movie’s preparation and her look.

Workshops for the cast will start shortly. If all goes according to plan, the crew will go to a hill located in West Bengal next month to shoot the movie from beginning to end.

According to the article, Jaideep Ahlawat plays the character of the neighbour. Sujoy has braided a rich love storey between both the leads into the thriller, giving it a new dimension.
