Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta was cremated in Versova on Saturday evening after a fatal fall at home. Bollywood colleagues gathered to pay tribute.
Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta was cremated at Pawan Hans Crematorium near Yari Road Junction in Versova on Saturday evening, with colleagues from Hindi cinema in attendance to say goodbye.
His body was first brought from the hospital to his Versova home. From there, an ambulance decorated with white flowers carried him to the crematorium. The pyre was lit by his son Shivansh and daughter Dalai, and the last rites ended around 8.30 pm.
A star-filled farewell
The gathering brought together a cross-section of the industry. Among those present were Abhishek Bachchan, Manoj Bajpayee, Rakesh Roshan, Rajpal Yadav, Fardeen Khan, Rajat Bedi, Rahul Dev and Naved Jaffrey. Harshvardhan Rane and Meezaan Jafri, the leads of Gupta’s final film, also came to pay their respects.

What Mumbai Police have said
Mumbai Police said Gupta died around midnight after he lost his balance and fell inside his house. The fall caused a head injury and heavy bleeding. A post-mortem has been carried out. In a statement, police said, “The family has no suspicion or complaint.”
