Fresh movement in the Disha Salian case: advocate Nilesh Ojha, who represents Disha’s father Satish Salian, said on Saturday that he has handed the Central Bureau of Investigation a new piece of evidence and is pushing for custodial interrogation of the people he calls the accused.
The case has drawn years of attention because Disha had briefly worked with actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She died on June 9, 2020, after a fall from the 12th floor of a building in Malad; police registered an accidental death report and later concluded it was suicide, finding no evidence of foul play. A Special Investigation Team set up by the state government in December 2023 reached the same conclusion. Ojha has long contested that official account, and this latest move is the next step in that effort.
The new evidence
Ojha told news agency ANI that the evidence is a report submitted to the Home Ministry about the reinstatement of former police officer Sachin Vaze. He described it as a document which “clearly states” that Vaze was urgently reinstated on June 5, 2020, and assigned to the Crime Intelligence Unit.
Ojha alleges the CIU posting violated regulations: the unit required an officer of Police Inspector rank, while Vaze was of a lower rank. He further alleged that the appointment was made to “execute a conspiracy,” pointing to what he called murder, a cover-up, extortion and drug trade as the intended activities. These are serious allegations from the family’s legal team; they have not been independently tested in a court ruling.
What the lawyer wants
Ojha said all details had been submitted to the CBI on Saturday. He said he also outlined three demands in the letter and intends to file a fresh petition in the High Court. The requests he detailed publicly include:
- immediate custodial interrogation of the accused;
- investigation under High Court supervision.
That step would ask the judiciary to review the case again even though police and a state SIT have previously recorded a finding of no foul play.
Why fans are watching
For many followers of Bollywood, Disha’s name remains linked to the wider Sushant Singh Rajput story. The legal back-and-forth matters less for what it proves today than for what it signals: the family’s side is not letting the official conclusion stand without challenge.
It is also a reminder that allegations are not findings. The police and the SIT have recorded a finding of no foul play; a High Court petition, if admitted, would test how far that record can be reopened.
