Sanjay Dutt says he doesn’t feel peace in India anymore

Sanjay Dutt used a Gandhi Jayanti special to say something he usually wraps in humour: he misses the peace he once felt in India. Appearing on Shekhar Suman’s show Shekhar Tonite, the actor spoke about the country with a mix of affection and longing, then slipped into his beloved Munna Bhai register for a political sketch.

What Sanjay Dutt said about peace

During the conversation, Dutt praised ordinary Indians as lovely, large-hearted and hospitable before admitting he no longer feels the same calm in the country. “I can’t feel that peace in our country anymore,” he said, and added that he prays to Shivji for those days to come back soon.

The remark is personal as much as political. Dutt holds a 10-year UAE Golden Visa, and his wife Maanayata Dutt and twins Shahraan and Iqra live in Dubai. He shuttles between Mumbai and Dubai for work, which makes his point about wanting peace at home feel less abstract.

The Dubai connection adds a layer. Living between two homes gives him a specific vantage point: he can feel what has changed when he returns, and his wish for peace reads like someone measuring the distance from a country he still calls his own.

A Munna Bhai-style PM act

The show then asked him to imagine being Prime Minister for five minutes. Dutt answered in the familiar Munna Bhai cadence, addressing the huge country and its many people before promising not to take the celebrations abroad.

The line doubles as a veiled joke about PM Narendra Modi’s overseas travel, and Dutt kept it gentle. He explained that by staying right here, among all of you, a Prime Minister keeps a connection with the public. It was comedy with a clear point about proximity and accountability.

Why it hits differently

Dutt’s appeal is built on a blend of tough-guy roles and the disarmingly sweet Munna Bhai. That made the contrast on this episode sharp: the reflection on peace was quiet, and the Prime Minister bit was warm. Fans got both sides of the star in one sitting.

What he has coming up

Dutt’s screen calendar keeps him busy. He was last seen in the political drama Aakhri Sawal, which released in cinemas in May. He also made a cameo with Salman Khan in the international project 7 Dogs, which premiered in the Middle East before its India release.

  • Aakhri Sawal – released in May
  • 7 Dogs – cameo with Salman Khan, Middle East premiere first
  • Khalnayak Returns – next, sequel to 1993’s Khal Nayak

The next title, Khalnayak Returns, is an action thriller that returns him to the legacy of his 1993 cult classic Khal Nayak. That sequel gives the actor another chance to bridge the rowdy screen image with the reflective mood he brought to this interview.
