Legendary actor Dilip Kumar laid to rest with full state honors: Saira Banu Thanks Narendra Modi and Uddhav Thackeray

The legendary actor Dilip Kumar suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest on July 7. His mortal remains were wrapped in the Indian tricolor.  The Screen legend was buried with full state honors in the Santacruz kabristan. Not more than 25-30 people were allowed inside for the funeral.  But the venue was packed with media and fans of the late star.  Several state leaders, including Sharad Pawar, and noted actors visited the superstar’s residence.

Tributes poured in from politicians, sportspersons, and actors across India and Pakistan.  This displays the popularity of the veteran actor. State chief minister Uddhav Thackeray also visited the residence of Dilip Kumar. Udhav Thackeray said, “We have lost the one who has enriched the Indian cinema. Dilip Kumar is a shining star. He played everlasting roles in Hindi films. He will remain in the hearts of cinema lovers forever.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “ His passing away is a loss to our cultural world.  Condolences to his family, friends, and innumerable admirers. RIP. Saira Banu thanks honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray as the actor’s funeral took place with State honors.

Hindi Cinema Icon Dilip Kumar was honored with many awards during his 50 years career.  The screen legend was the recipient of Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994.
