Sajid Nadiadwala produced Kambakkht Ishq, a 2009 Bollywood Hindi-language romantic action comedy movie directed by Sabbir Khan. This movie stars Akshay Kumar as well as Kareena Kapoor in lead roles, alongside Aftab Shivdasani and Amrita Arora in supporting parts. It really is modelled on the Tamil movie Pammal K. Sambandam from 2002. Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Brandon Routh, and Holly Valance all make cameo appearances as themselves. The project was initially intended to be released in December 2008, but owing to significant production work, it was postponed and released on July 3, 2009. Box Office India rated it as an average film.
When Hollywood stuntman Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar) and medical student Simrita Rai (Kareena Kapoor) meet at his brother Lucky’s (Aftab Shivdasani) and her best friend Kamini Sandhu’s (Amrita Arora) hurriedly planned to wed, they immediately detest one other. Both have a negative view of the other sex and are adamant that marriage is not the right path for the two newlyweds, whom they try to persuade not to go any further.
Simrita persuades Kamini to put her thesis that men are only interested in one thing to the test by persuading Lucky to postpone their wedding vows for three months.
She is confident that Lucky will be unable to do so, demonstrating to Kamini that Lucky was just another low-class guy like the others and that her assertions that he was different from most men were untrue. When Viraj learns of this new development, he attempts to do the polar opposite. This leads to a funny scene in a local disco bar when Viraj lures Kamini in the hopes that she would discover Lucky with a “girlfriend” whom he has placed on Lucky’s lap to make Kamini jealous. A police raid backfires on the plan, and Kamini and Lucky find themselves in divorce court, where the judge sentences them to three months of probation and marriage counselling.
Simrita constantly tells Kamini that all guys are the same and only care about sex. Lucky attempts to seduce Kamini, but she refuses to allow him to approach her.
Nevertheless, Simrita, as well as Viraj, keep running into one another when they fly to Italy on their own; the former to earn some fast cash as a model in order to pay her medical expenses, and the latter, with Lucky, to relax and unwind from the marital tension Lucky has been dealing with back home. Simrita’s aunt Dolly (Kirron Kher) gives her a watch pendant to wear as a good luck symbol when she returns home. Her wrist is adorned with a bracelet that holds the pendant.
Viraj is badly injured at work and is rushed to the hospital wherein Simrita is an intern for emergency surgery. Simrita is given the responsibility of performing surgery on Viraj, much to their chagrin. She is shocked to learn, upon looking at the X-rays just after surgery, that now the watch on her wrist had unintentionally wound up in Viraj’s stomach.
Simrita attempts a few different methods to remove the watch. Simrita is resentful at the perceived unfaithfulness of the two most significant men in her childhood: her divorced father and her elder sister’s ex-husband, as revealed during one such procedure that fails.
Viraj is secretly falling in love with Simrita at this point. Simrita succeeds in extracting the watch from Viraj’s stomach many days later. Viraj overhears the truth after the procedure and flees. He proposes to Denise Richards a few days later in an attempt to forget about Simrita. Simrita helps Lucky and Kamini reconcile after realising her error and chooses to express her love for Viraj during the wedding ceremony. Denise is furious at first but afterwards instructs Viraj to go see Simrita. The two hug and drive away together, enjoying a few passionate kisses along the way.
Anu Malik wrote the majority of the music for this film, with RDB and Salim-Sulaiman serving as guest composers.
