The Maharashtra government announced on Wednesday that a music institution would be established in Mumbai in honour of iconic vocalist Lata Mangeshkar, who died on February 6th at the age of 92. According to reports, the museum would be established on Mumbai University’s Kalina Campus.
COVID-19-related issues claimed the life of Lata Mangeshkar. On Sunday evening, the singer’s death rituals were held in Shivaji Park in Mumbai. With full state honours, the Bharat Ratna awardee was put to rest.
Meanwhile, Bhartiya Janta Party MLA Ram Kadam had petitioned Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to dedicate a memorial to the late singer in Shivaji Park a few days ago.
At Shivaji Park, there is now a memorial to Balasaheb Thackeray.
Furthermore, the Madhya Pradesh government announced on Monday that a music academy, as well as museum, will be established in Indore, the birthplace of famous performer Lata Mangeshkar. In Indore, a memorial to the singer will be erected. In addition, on the occasion of the late Lata Mangeshkar’s birth anniversary, a state prize will be named after her and handed to performers.
Talking about Lata Mangeshkar Ji’s final moments, ANI quoted Dr Patit Samdani as saying, “Whenever Lata Ji’s health deteriorated, I would have treated her, but this time her condition was deteriorating day by day. Though we continued our efforts eventually we could not save her. I will remember her smile for the rest of my life. Even in her final moments, she had a smile on her face. Since the past few years, her health was not good and hence she was not able to meet much with anyone.”
