Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Tony Luke, and Amrita Singh feature in Badla, a 2019 Indian-British Hindi-language mystery thriller helmed by Sujoy Ghosh and starring Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Tony Luke, and Amrita Singh. The movie is a remake of the 2016 Spanish movie The Invisible Guest, and is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Azure Entertainment. The plot revolves around an interview between a lawyer and a businesswoman, in which the latter claims that she is being falsely accused of her lover’s death.
The movie was released on March 8, 2019, and has made over 138.49 crore globally against a production budget of 37 crore.
Naina Sethi (Taapsee Pannu) is a wealthy entrepreneur in London with a perfect family who is youthful and cunning. When she is jailed for the death of her secret lover, Arjun, her world is turned upside down (Tony Luke). Jimmy Punjabi (Manav Kaul), Naina’s lawyer, hires prominent defence attorney Badal Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) to defend her, and the two work together over the course of one late evening to figure out what occurred. Badal discloses that there is a witness who would implicate her in the crime if she testifies. Someone blackmailed Naina and Arjun for their adulterous affair, she reveals.
They were summoned to a hotel where Naina had been assaulted, only to discover Arjun dead and the money intended for the blackmailer missing. She was arrested, but she was released on bond. There is no evidence of anyone else being in the room or breaking in, according to the authorities.
Badal accuses Naina of lying to him and interrogates her regarding the disappearance of a young guy near the hotel. Naina explains that she and Arjun just visited a lodge in the woods. On her way back, she collided with an incoming vehicle, killing the driver, a little kid called Sunny. Arjun persuaded Naina not to contact the cops, and they were able to erase all evidence of the crime.
Sunny’s body was placed in the trunk of his car, which Naina afterwards discarded in a marsh. While Arjun was waiting for her, a local couple named Rani and Nirmal approached him and invited him to their house, where Arjun learned that they are Sunny’s parents. Rani became worried when Sunny’s phone rang in Arjun’s pocket since he had neglected to dispose of it. Arjun and Naina manage to flee, but they are concerned about being detected.
Soon after, Naina saw on the news that Sunny had embezzled money from the bank where he worked and then vanished.
Arjun had snatched Sunny’s wallet while they were disposing of the corpse and used his girlfriend’s job credentials to get into the bank in order to paint Sunny as a criminal, she discovered. Rani recognises Naina’s automobile at the crime site, making her a suspect, but Naina has her lawyer fabricate an alibi. The cops believe it, but Rani isn’t persuaded. Later, during a press event, Rani approaches Naina and says that she knows the truth. She begs Naina to reveal Sunny’s location, but Naina maintains her innocence. Arjun and Naina are contacted by the blackmailer a few months later, which leads to the current occurrences.
