As per late singer’s doctor, Bappi Lahiri remained in the ICU for 15 days

On February 15, the country lost another jewel. Bappi Lahiri, also known as the ‘Disco King,’ died in a Mumbai hospital on Tuesday night after suffering from severe health difficulties. Bappi Lahiri, the iconic singer who enchanted millions with his voice for decades, was cremated on February 17 in Mumbai’s Vile Parle crematorium. Bappi Lahiri’s treating doctor, Dr Deepak Namjoshi, said in a recent interview that Bappi da was hospitalised 3 to 4 times in the previous year.

Speaking to ETimes, he said, “This time, he was admitted for 29 days and of those, he was about 15 days in the ICU. He had been quite sick for some time and in such cases, we keep seeing such outcomes.” Lately, Bappi Da’s voice changed. Talking about it, Dr Deepak Namjoshi said yes, that happened because he was on a bypass machine for his night breathing and when a person is on a bypass machine, it causes dryness of the throat which can affect the voice.

He explained that Bappi Lahiri did not die as a result of post-COVID problems. According to the doctor, he has had health concerns for a long time and was infected with COVID in April 2021, but what transpired after that cannot be classified as a COVID complication. “It was because of his OSA # (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) and a recent chest infection that had developed as a result of his fat,” says the doctor. “A lot of fat folks have OSA,” he explained.

Celebrities and artists, as well as the singer’s family and friends, attended the last rituals. Vidya Balan, Mika Singh, Alka Yagnik, Ila Arun, Shakti Kapoor, Nikhil Dwivedi, and Bhushan Kumar were among the numerous guests. Even, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind expressed grief over the demise of the legend.
