Amitabh Bachchan’s 84th Birthday Fan Meet Turns Tense Amid Rush
Amitabh Bachchan's 84th birthday fan meet turned tense as young fans broke the security chain; he kept folded hands and declined a handshake.

Amitabh Bachchan turned 84 on Sunday, October 11, and kept his annual ritual of stepping outside his home to meet the fans who wait for him. This year’s appearance showed both sides of that tradition: the warmth of a star greeting his admirers, and the speed with which a crowd can become a safety problem.
A video from the gathering shows a couple of young fans trying to move through the security chain to get close to the actor. Bachchan’s bodyguards stepped in and guided them back. Dressed in a red kurta, Bachchan continued to greet the crowd with folded hands. He politely declined a fan’s request to shake hands, posed near a large garland that fans had put together, waved and thanked the crowd before heading back inside.
Why the video divided viewers
The clip quickly produced two very different readings online. Some viewers wished the actor had been more accommodating. “He could have just shook hands with her, she came with a lot of hope,” one comment read. Others argued that the young fans should never have crossed the security line, and that Bachchan had every reason to hold his personal space.
That split is familiar at celebrity appearances. A security barrier is not only about the star; it protects the people standing in the crowd. When a chain breaks or someone rushes forward, the situation can escalate into a crush or a fall. In that context, a folded-hands greeting is still a gesture of respect, even when a handshake is not possible.
Birthday love from the industry
Beyond the curb-side crowd, birthday wishes came from across film generations. Chiranjeevi called Bachchan “Guru Ji” and wrote: “Your love for cinema and the respect you bring to your craft have always been an inspiration to me.” Prabhas, Ajay Devgn, Kamal Haasan, Kajol and Farah Khan also shared messages. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan posted a picture of the actor with Aaradhya.
What’s next for Big B
On the work front, Bachchan will return as Ashwatthama in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. The Nag Ashwin-directed film also stars Kamal Haasan and Prabhas. Deepika Padukone, who appeared in the first film, will not be part of the sequel; reports suggest Sai Pallavi may step into that space, though no official confirmation has been given. The project is currently in production.
For fans who plan to attend a celebrity meet, a few simple rules can keep the moment safe for everyone:
- Stay behind the designated barriers and follow the security team’s instructions.
- Treat a wave, a namaste or folded hands as a greeting even without physical contact.
- Arrive early and avoid pushing forward once the crowd gets dense.
