Aamir Khan’s Boldest Bet Yet: Sitaare Zameen Par to Release on 3500 Screens, Skips OTT Entirely

In an era of digital-first releases, Aamir Khan is swimming against the tide. His upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par will release across 3000–3500 screens nationwide, driven by a massive demand from exhibitors and a complete rejection of OTT rights.

Initially planned as a conservative rollout, the film’s release strategy pivoted after single screens and multiplexes rallied for a wider release. Aamir, always one to trust audience instincts, listened — and went all in. Not only did he pass on lucrative OTT deals, but he also bought back full control of the film from Sony Pictures by reportedly paying ₹30 crore.

“This is a brave move,” says an insider. “He wants the magic of theatres to be alive.” Starring Genelia Deshmukh and directed by RS Prasanna, the film is poised for a June 20 release with affordable ticket pricing and major buzz in the works. Advance bookings open Tuesday — and all eyes are on the silver screen!
