The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has been renewed by Disney+. In May 2020, it was initially announced that a series adaption of the Rick Riordan book series had been in the works at the streamer. The casting process is presently in progress. Rick Riordan announced the series’ renewal in a video message.
The live-action Percy Jackson series, as per Variety, follows the fascinating narrative of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod, who is already coming to grips with his unexpected magical powers when Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Percy now has to go throughout America in search of it and restore order to Olympus.
The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle in the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian are the books in the Percy Jackson series. Riordan has also written The Demigod Files and The Demigod Diaries, which are companion books to the series.
Both Lightning Thief, as well as Sea of Monsters, have been turned into major films previously. Jackson was played by Logan Lerman. The first movie was released in 2010, followed by the second in 2013. Critics gave the two movies mixed reviews, although they made over $425 million worldwide.
James Bobin will direct Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Rioodan and Jon Steinberg will collaborate on the pilot. Bobin recently helmed as well as executive produced Disney Plus’ Mysterious Benedict Society series and the feature Dora and the Lost City of Gold, while Steinberg is currently on an overall agreement with Disney’s 20th Television.
Along with Bobin, Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, and Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg, Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz serve as executive producers. The studio is called 20th Television. Salke was indeed the president of Touchstone Television while the programme was first in development.
