National Award Winner Actress Surekha Sikri Passes Away Due To Cardiac Arrest

National Award-winning popular actor Surekha Sikri has died at the age of 75 due to cardiac arrest. Read below to know more.

The manager of late actress Surekha Sikri confirmed to the famous daily Indian Express that “Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram.”

As per the reports, the actress was unwell for a while with suffering from a paralytic stroke in the year 2018 followed by a brain stroke in 2020.

Surekha Sikri graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD) in 1971. She started her career with the political drama ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’ in 1978. Her glorious career spanned films, theatre and television. She, however, gained the most popularity for her role of a stern matriarch, Kalyani Devi aka ‘Dadisa’ in Colors’ show ‘Balika Vadhu’, also starring Anup Soni, Smita Bansal, Sidharth Shukla, Shashank Vyas, Avika Gaur and late Pratyusha Banerjee. She was part of the show from its beginning in 2008 till its end in 2016. She also won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989. The actress Surekha Sikri received three National Awards in her career for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995), and Badhaai Ho (2018).

For her portrayal of dadi in the 2018 movie ‘Badhaai Ho’, co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao and Sanya Malhotra. Surekha Sikri received her third National Award under the category of Best Supporting Actress for the movie. To receive the award she arrived in a wheelchair. The Veteran actress was last seen in the Ghost Stories segment Helmed by Zoya Akhtar and premiered on Netflix.
