With the triumph of James Cameron’s Avatar in 2009, Hollywood was flooded with 3D pictures, and we saw a slew of them, including all of the Marvel flicks, from Captain America to Avengers, and other animated films like Toy Story. Read below to know the second 3D movie in India’s Bollywood Industry.
Surprisingly, the fundamental technology for creating 3D films has been known for almost a century. After My Dear Kuttichathan in 1984, India just released its second 3D film in around 2011.
Haunted 3D
Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Tia Bajpai, Achint Kaur, and Arif Zakaria feature in Haunted – 3D, a 2011 Indian Hindi-language supernatural action horror film directed by Vikram Bhatt and starring Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Tia Bajpai, Achint Kaur, and Arif Zakaria. It is the first stereoscopic 3D movie, genre- Horror and made in India.
On February 7, 2011, the movie’s promotions and first look were revealed. The film received mixed reviews at its first release on May 6, 2011, but went on to be a monetary success. On August 3, 2011, a 3D Blu-ray disc was released.
Chirantan Bhatt composed the music, and Shakeel Azmi and Junaid Wasi wrote the words.
Haunted – 3D was the greatest opening weekend ever for an Indian horror picture, according to boxofficeindia.com. The film made over 130 million dollars in its first weekend after being released in over 1044 theatres. The film grossed 143.0 million dollars in its first week.
The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta gave it two stars and said, “‘Haunted’ is only new in that it is a 3D Bollywood horror film. The rest of it, that is, the main elements that make it a film—story, setting, and characters—are all familiar.” Despite of being a 3D movie, the audience didn’t perceived it as a Horror film, rather than it became an unintentional comedy film.
