1962: The War In The Hills Review – Abhay Deol is a star

The current anti-China sentiment has made many revisit the old times and remember the great war that we had with our neighbour in 1962. Disney + Hotstar has today released a web series that is inspired by the incidents around the war. It stars Abhay Deol, Mahie Gill and Sumeet Vyas in the lead roles.

Akash Thosar, Rohan Gandotra, Annup Sonii, Meiyang Chang, Rochelle Rao and Hemal Ingle have also played an important part of the show.

While the main story revolves around the 125 Indian soldiers who fought against 3,000 Chinese and made India proud but there are many sub plots that add an emotional angle and keep you invested. Abhay Deol plays the role of Major Suraj Singh who is the captain of the C company and leads Indian troops. Mahie Gill on the other hand plays the role of his wife. Back in the here and now it is she who is narating the events to us

What is good about 1962: The War in the hills?

There are many things to like about the show. The most notable one is acting. Abhay Deol does a great job in the series. He is the heart and soul of it and does full justice to the same. Mahie Gill and Sumeet Vyas too are good in their respective roles. However, some of the supporting cast could have done better.

The series has been shot in the high terrains of Ladakh and remote villages across India that gives the show a real, believable look. It has all worked in the favour of the series.

Not so good part

The biggest drawback of the series is the naration. At some places it becomes quite a strech. It takes a lot of time for the writers to establish the main nuances and for things to get started. A lit crisper story telling or slicker editing would have made this show even better watch.

How many episodes are there in 1962: The war in the hills

The series has 10 episodes. Every episode is about 45 minutes long. It is streaming on Disney +Hotstar. Only premium or VIP customers can watch it. 1962: The war in the Hills is streaming from 26th December.
