The release date for the tenth chapter i.e., Fast & Furious 10 in the Fast & Furious franchise has been moved back to summer 2023. The penultimate edition of the blockbuster long-running cars-to-spies franchise, featuring Vin Diesel inside the lead character, is directed by Justin Lin.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal announced on December 14 that the theatrical release date for Fast & Furious 10, the film’s working title, for now, has been moved back six weeks from April 7, 2023, the start of Easter weekend, to May 19, 2023. The 19th of May had previously been set aside for an “untitled event” picture at Universal.
Fast & Furious 10 now will launch closer towards the lucrative Memorial Day corridor, despite the studio’s lack of explanation. Other event films scheduled for early summer 2023 include The Little Mermaid (May 26) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (June 2).
Universal isn’t completely abandoning the Easter window and has announced that such an untitled DreamWorks Animation feature would be rescheduled from March 24, 2023, to April 7, 2023.
The Fast and Furious franchise, which began in 2001, has grossed $6.3 billion worldwide, including the 2019 spinoff Hobbs & Shaw. Despite the COVID-19 epidemic, the most recent chapter of the main franchise, 2021’s Lin-directed F9, made $726.6 million globally.
Justin Lin will helm the Fast and Furious 10th and 11th movies, which will become the final instalments in the franchise. Beginning with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in 2006, Lin has helmed five Fast flicks.
Sung Kang, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Tyres Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Michelle Rodriguez, all franchise regulars, are anticipated to return. The mid-credits sequence from F9 suggests Jason Statham’s character will play some part too.
