Miss Universe 2021 was held in Israel, where Harnaaz Sandhu of India was crowned the winner. Following Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta, the attractive pageant contestant has become the third Miss Universe winner. At the 70th edition of the famous yearly tournament, Lalela Mswane of South Africa was named second runner-up as well as Nadia Ferreira of Paraguay was named first runner-up.
Harnaaz Sandhu, a 21-year-old Punjabi woman, represented India there at the 70th Miss Universe pageant. Sushmita Sen won the championship in 1994, followed by Lara Dutta in 2000. The previous victory had already been 21 years ago.
When questioned about becoming a part of a top three-round, “What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?” Harnaaz responded, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today.”
Priyanka Chopra congratulated Harnaaz Sandhu on social media, writing, “And here is who the new Miss Universe is… India is indeed a beautiful country. @HarnaazSandhu03, congrats on bringing the championship home after 21 years!”
Lara Dutta, the 2000 winner, praised the new winner, saying, “@HarnaazSandhu03, congrats!!!!! Hello and welcome to the club!!! This has been 21 years in the making!!! You make us so proud!!! A million wishes are granted!!! @MissUniverse @MissDivaOrg”
According to rumours, Harnaaz Sandhu has entered the Punjabi cinema industry and has a handful of projects in the works.
