Himesh Reshammiya: romantic songs get 10 times the views

Composer Himesh Reshammiya explains why he turns down films without a romantic track, saying the genre earns ten times more views and streams.

Himesh Reshammiya's 10-times romantic-song rule

Himesh Reshammiya has built his Bollywood career around a clear musical lane. In a conversation with Komal Nahta, he explained that he now turns down films that do not have a situation for a romantic song between the hero and heroine.

The logic is direct. As he put it, romantic tracks bring in “10 times more” views and streams. If the format works, he wants to protect it by choosing only projects that let him deliver it.

Brand promise over project volume

Reshammiya said the phrase “because of my brand” shapes his decision. The expectation that follows his name means a film album without a romantic centre is a risk. If the numbers dip, people will say it did not have a romantic song, he told Nahta.

He is not inflexible when the balance is right. A beautiful situational track between friends can stay, he said, as long as the other four songs are romantic. But if the makers insist there is no place for a romantic track, his answer is direct: “Mujhe nahin karni. Mujhe maaf kar do.”

The bank that made decisions fast

That clarity began before his Bollywood debut. Reshammiya said he kept a bank of ready songs and tunes even before Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya released in 1998.

  • The bank helped him lock seven songs for Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge in two hours with David Dhawan.
  • He said he could have played 40 more, but more options would only add confusion.
  • Humraaz came together in one sitting with Abbas-Mustan because the songs carried the film’s world.

Why this matters for fans and creators

Reshammiya’s rule tells listeners what to expect: melody-first romance, arranged around the hero and heroine. For artists and producers, it is a case study in positioning. A signature sound becomes a quality promise only if you say no to work that cannot meet it.

The 10x figure is his stated reason for keeping that promise. He did not share a streaming dashboard in the interview, but the boundary is the point: choose the lane, make the promise, and decline everything that breaks it.
