Exclusive: Sonu Nigam’s Musical Truths and his comment on one remix that shouldn’t have happened?

We are no one to decide what should or shouldn’t happen,” said legendary singer Sonu Nigam, in an EXCLUSIVE chat with Movified Bollywood during a rapid-fire round that revealed the icon’s signature wit, humility, and soulful reflections on music today.

In a time when remix culture is being questioned by fans and purists alike, we asked Sonu: “Is there any song you feel shouldn’t have been remixed?” With characteristic calm, he replied:

“Kuch nahi. Jo ho raha hai duniya mein acha ho raha hai. Hum koi nahi hote kuch kehne ke liye ki ye kharab ho raha hai, ye nahi hona chahiye, aise nahi hona chahiye. Hum hai kyon? Hamari aukaat kya hai? Toh ho raha hai duniya mein acha ho raha hai bas.”

The Musical Rapid Fire also had some soulful moments:

First instrument? Harmonium, gifted by his father.

Song he’s humming nonstop? “Pardesiya, tere pyaar mein jab se”-“It’s stuck like a drill machine in my head!” he laughed.

Language he loves singing in (apart from Hindi)? Kannada.

Life without music? “A dead body.”

Music for Sonu? “A state of mind. A state of being. Entirely me. I am music and music is me.”
