Cardi B, an American rapper, recently won a court fight against YouTuber Tasha K (Latasha Kebe), whom she sued in 2019, and was awarded over a million dollars in damages.

As per Billboard, a federal jury on Monday (January 24) sided with Cardi B in her claims that a YouTuber decided to name Tasha K waged a “malicious campaign” to harm the rapper’s reputation, finding that the woman had defamed the rapper as well as awarding her damages of more than $1 million (roughly Rs. 7.4 crores).

Cardi B sued Latasha Kebe in 2019 for various videos released by the YouTuber asserting frightening truths and promoting ugly rumours about just the American rapper, as per The Hollywood Reporter. One video, which was also mentioned in the complaint, contained a statement regarding Cardi B’s prior life, while others contained several unsettling accusations and falsehoods, such as the rapper had cheated on her spouse, contracting herpes, being a prostitute, and so on.

Cardi B testified during the trial, saying that the recordings of Latasha Kebe made her feel “suicidal” and that “only an awful person could do such sh–.” According to Billboard, the YouTuber originally claimed that she willfully disseminated falsehoods about the rapper, however, she subsequently sought to backtrack when questioned by her own attorneys.

After a two-week trial in Atlanta, the jury found in favour of the rapper as well as found YouTuber Latasha Kebe accountable for defamation and two other types of misconduct in relation to her YouTube videos as well as other online posts containing hostile statements.

Cardi B was given about $1.25 million in damages in Monday’s ruling, however, the amount might wind up being more. The trial will begin on Tuesday to determine if Kebe is liable for further punitive damages or must compensate Cardi B for her legal fees.

Following the decision, YouTuber Tasha K took to Twitter and stated, “My husband, attorneys, and I battled tooth and nail. I’d want to express my gratitude for their long hours and restless nights. It’s just going to get better from here, Winos. In a few days, I’ll see you all. Back to the grindstone.”
