Yes, the 2011 released film is considered the World’s most expensive movie till now. It’s the fourth instalment film from the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean film series’. Taking about the film in more depth-

On Stranger Tides is a 2011 American fantasy swashbuckler film, the fourth entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and a standalone sequel to At World’s End (2007). It is the first film to be directed by someone other than Gore Verbinski, who Rob Marshall has replaced.

Jerry Bruckheimer produced the film once more. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is accompanied in his hunt for the Fountain of Youth by Angelica (Penélope Cruz) in the movie, which is primarily based on Tim Powers’ 1987 novel On Stranger Tides (Ian McShane). Walt Disney Pictures produced the film, which Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributed. It was the first picture to be distributed in 3D formats, including Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3D.

During Dead Man’s Chest (2006) and At World’s End, writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio first learnt about Powers’ novel On Stranger Tides and thought it would be an appropriate beginning point for a new film in the series. Following the end of the Authors Guild of America strike in 2007–2008, Depp began working on the plot design with the writers.

Between June and November 2010, principal photography took place in Hawaii, the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, and California and lasted 106 days. The film was shot on 3D cameras identical to those used in making the 2009 blockbuster Avatar, and ten different firms handled the visual effects. The film now holds the record for being the most costly film ever made, with a net budget of $379 million due to increased production expenses.

On May 20, 2011, On Stranger Tides was released in the United States. The film shattered several box office records and finished 2011 as the third highest-grossing film of all time. Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth feature, was released in May 2017, and a sixth film is in the works.

Forbes estimated in 2014 that the film cost $410.6 million in the United Kingdom before a tax credit of at least $34.1 million. Johnny Depp earned $55 million for the sequel, according to Forbes. In 2011, Johnny Depp informed Vanity Fair that the “Pirates” franchise overpaid him. Johnny Depp said, “If they’re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I’m going to take it.” He further added, “I have to. I mean, it’s not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it’s for my kids.”
