Veere Di Wedding

Rhea Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, as well as Nikhil Dwivedi produced Veere Di Wedding, a 2018 Hindi-language buddy comedy movie directed by Shashanka Ghosh and produced by Rhea Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, and Nikhil Dwivedi. This movie stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Swara Bhaskar, as well as Shikha Talsania in key roles as four friends attending the wedding, alongside Neena Gupta inside a supporting role. It is loosely inspired upon that 2015 movie The Wedding Ringer.

Veere Di Wedding was released in theatres on June 1, 2018, to mixed reviews. This movie has made over 1.39 billion (equivalent to 1.6 billion or US$21 million in 2020) globally on a budget of 280 million (equivalent to 320 million or US$4.2 million in 2020), making it the sixth best earning Hindi film of the year when the most for a movie with female stars.

At the 64th Filmfare Awards, it garnered three nominations, notably Best Supporting Actress for Talsania and Best Actor for Bhaskar. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, a sequel, Veere Di Wedding 2, is now on hold.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja said in December 2015 that she will be working on projects alongside her sister Rhea Kapoor. In June 2016, the project was formally announced.

Due to Kareena Kapoor Khan’s pregnancy, the project was postponed. In September of 2017, principal photography began. In Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangkok, the movie was shot. Swara Bhaskar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Shikha Talsania have all accepted to star in the movie. Danish Taimoor, a Pakistani actor, was cast as Rishabh opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan, having filming dates set, but he had to drop out owing to delays caused by Kapoor Khan’s pregnancy and escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Sumeet Vyas took his position.

While the movie was being made, another Bollywood movie with a similar name, Veerey Ki Wedding, featuring Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda, as well as Jimmy Shergill, was released. Anil Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor attempted to contest the usage of such a similar name in court, but were unsuccessful.

Because of its graphic language and sensuality, this movie was banned in Pakistan and Kuwait. When asked about the prohibition in Pakistan, Swara Bhaskar stated that it is obvious that it would be prohibited in a non-secular nation state governed by Sharia Law, such as Pakistan, and went on to say that the Pakistani people will see the film, citing tweets from them.
