The next significant crossover event from Marvel Comics has been unveiled. The sequel to 2019’s Absolute Carnage, King in Black, will examine what happens when the symbiote deity Knull lands on Earth.
Absolute Carnage writer Donny Cates and illustrator Ryan Stegman will rejoin this new limited series. “Everything in Cates and Stegman’s classic run on VENOM has led up to this epic narrative, and readers will finally see Eddie Brock’s climactic confrontation with one of Marvel’s most terrible villains,” says Marvel in a press statement.
While Eddie Brock will be the primary character in King in Black, the teaser graphic hints that both the X-Men and the Avengers will be involved in the battle against Knull.
If this crossover is on par with Absolute Carnage in terms of magnitude, we may expect tie-in miniseries including both teams as well as other significant participants, as well as a parallel plot in the pages of the ongoing Venom comic.
“This is really the coolest, darkest, most metallic element, Cthulhu dark horror thing I’ve ever been possible to manufacture in terms of event books,” Cates remarked. “I can’t believe Marvel is allowing us to go as dark as well as horrific as we are.”
“The invention of the character Knull is among the things I’m most pleased of in this series,” Stegman remarked. “We’ll be revealing some new designs throughout the series that are both amazing and disturbing,” says the cast.
For those unfamiliar with the current Venom series, Cates as well as Stegman previously established that perhaps the symbiotes were formed by Knull, a demonic creature that lived before the Big Bang in the cosmic emptiness. Since the Celestials woke him up from his tranquil slumber, Knull has fought an unending battle against life. Cletus Kasady attempted to kill everyone who has ever mated with a symbiote and collect the vestiges of the symbiote codex from their bodies in Knull’s previous incarnation, Absolute Carnage. Though Venom was able to halt Carnage, he was unable to stop Knull from reawakening and disclosing Earth’s location.
