Vijay: All that you must know about this Yash Chopra directorial movie

Vijay

Yash Chopra helmed Vijay, a 1988 Bollywood Hindi romantic action movie. Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Meenakshi Seshadri, Sonam Kher, and Anupam Kher are featured in important parts of the film. With his portrayal, Anupam Kher received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.

Chopra’s original film, Trishul, served as inspiration for the narrative of the film. Only until the release of Dhoom in 2004, this would be the final action picture directed by Yash Chopra and that the last action movie produced by Yash Raj Films.

Lala is a widow. Yodhraj Bhalla (Anupam Kher) lives along with his daughter Suman as well as his son Shashiraj inside a beautiful home (Raj Babbar). His two children are all of marriageable age. Once he learns that Suman is already in love with such a poor employee named Ajit Bhardwaj (Rajesh Khanna), he is taken aback and refuses to approve of the marriage. Suman as well as Ajit marry inside a modest ceremony, and Suman relocates to Ajit’s home, as she becomes pregnant and gives birth to a boy named Vikram (nicknamed Vicky) (Rishi Kapoor). When Shashiraj informs Yodhraj that he wants to marry Rita (Moushumi Chatterjee), who hails from a poor family, Yodhraj is taken aback.

Yodhraj invites Shashiraj to fly out of town on his personal jet. With Shashiraj out of the way, Yodhraj approaches a pregnant Rita and tells her that she would never see Shashiraj again and hands her a blank cheque. Shashiraj is killed in an aircraft crash on the same day; a guilt-ridden Suman returns to her father’s house with Vikram, leaving Ajit alone and distraught; and alone Rita gives birth to a small son called Arjun on the same day (Anil Kapoor). Yodhraj, Suman, and Vikram are still living in his opulent home after twenty-five years. After his mother Rita died, Arjun grew up and moved in with his adopted father Inder Sen (Saeed Jaffrey).

He meets as well as befriends Vikram, fully oblivious to the fact that they will be cousins. What will he do once he realises Vikram is his cousin? Exactly what sort of retaliation does he have prepared for his grandpa Yodhraj? What happens to Ajit Bharadwaj, who has been betrayed by Yodhraj and also has lost his wife Suman and son?

Shiv Kumar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia, collectively known as Shiv-Hari, created the music for Vijay. Nida Fazli wrote the lyrics for the song. The majority of the songs were shot in Switzerland, as is Chopra’s custom, and virtually all of them featured Meenakshi Seshadri, the movie’s lead heroine.
