Tovino Thomas’ Munpe Wraps Filming: What We Know
Tovino Thomas and debutant Meghana Manoj finish the shoot of Saiju Sreedharan's romantic fantasy Munpe, but the plot is still a secret.

Tovino Thomas has finished filming Munpe, a romantic fantasy that has stayed largely under wraps since it was first announced in 2024. The makers confirmed the milestone on social media on Monday, sending the project into post-production without revealing a release date.
What we know about Munpe
The film is directed by editor-turned-filmmaker Saiju Sreedharan and marks the debut of Meghana Manoj as the female lead opposite Tovino. Vinay Forrt and Kiran Peethambaran play key supporting roles, while debutant Tina Thomas has written the screenplay.
Here is the picture so far:
- Status: Filming complete; update shared on Monday.
- Cast: Tovino Thomas, Meghana Manoj, Vinay Forrt and Kiran Peethambaran.
- Crew: Director-editor Saiju Sreedharan, writer Tina Thomas, cinematographer Shinoz, music by Rex Vijayan and Gichu Joy.
- Release: No date announced; the title was first revealed in 2024.
Why the mystery has fans curious
The little we have seen is not ordinary romance. The 2024 motion poster placed Tovino inside what looked like a cosmic wormhole as a woman fell into it, and asked, “To what extent will you go to get back the one you lost?” That question suggests separation, longing and a journey that may cross timelines — but the team has not confirmed whether the film uses time travel, an alternate reality or some other device.
Tovino himself has been careful with details, describing the project only as an “intense, fantastical love story that is out of this world”.
What Saiju Sreedharan brings
For the director, Munpe is his second feature after the Manju Warrier-starrer Footage. But Malayalam film fans know his voice from the editing table: Maheshinte Prathikaaram, Mayaanadhi, Kumbalangi Nights, Virus and Anjaam Pathiraa are all on his resume. That mix of intimate drama and thriller pacing makes a fantasy romance feel like a logical next experiment.
The film is jointly produced by Tovino Thomas Productions, Panorama Studios and Dolwin Kuriakose’s Theatre of Dreams, the banner behind Tovino’s Anweshippin Kandethum.
What to watch for next
With the shoot complete, all eyes are on post-production and the first teaser or trailer. Meanwhile, Tovino will stay busy: he has a cameo in Amal Neerad’s Bachelor Party D’eux, Gracias El Clasico opposite Nazriya Nazim, Shilpa Alexander’s Avaran and Khalifa 2 – The Legacy.
Until Munpe gets a release date, the safest move for fans is to keep an eye on the makers’ socials for the first proper glimpse — and to rewatch Sreedharan’s editing credits if you want to guess the rhythm the film will carry.
