The Bombay High Court has dismissed a request to postpone the OTT release of 83 film

The Bombay High Court issued its judgement on the broadcasting rights of Ranveer Singh’s film 83, rejecting the motion to stop the film’s OTT release. The movie can now be shown on Netflix and Hotstar, thanks to the Supreme Court’s decision. In streaming the film 83, the court found in favour of Star India (owner of Hotstar) and Netflix. The Court, on the other hand, upheld Reliance Entertainment Studios Pvt. Ltd.’s exploitation rights.

According to India Today, a panel chaired by Justice Riyaz Chagla heard Mad Man Film Ventures’ complaint against Reliance Entertainment Studio and others. It was about Star India and Netflix’s exploitation of satellite and/or digital media rights. According to reports, Mad Man Film Ventures stated that intellectual property ownership was divided among them (37.5 percent), Reliance Entertainment (37.5 percent), and Vibri Media Pvt. Ltd., one of the film’s producers, due to consent terms (25 percent ). The OTT platforms stated that they had been awarded rights through agreements that had not been challenged and that had occurred considerably earlier in time than the Mad Man and Reliance consent conditions.

They also claimed that Mad Man’s contractual rights would not commence for another ten years, and that Reliance would retain all rights to the film for the next ten years following its theatrical debut.

After weighing all of the evidence and arguments, Justice Riyaz Chagla concluded that Star India and Netflix own both digital and satellite rights, and therefore Mad Man has no intellectual property rights. Furthermore, the Bombay High Court stated that Mad Man’s contractual rights would only begin after ten years, and that Reliance Entertainment Studios Pvt. Ltd. would have exclusive rights to the film until then.

Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Harrdy Sandhu, and others star in the film 83. Kabir Khan directed the film, which was released in December of last year.
